The Morning Practice That Changed My Life (And Why I Now Share It With Others)

Back in 2017, my life as I knew it completely changed.

After almost eight years together, my husband and I had one final argument — and that was it. We were living in Ibiza at the time, and just a week before we were meant to fly home together, he walked away. I came back alone, heartbroken, with everything suddenly uncertain. Within two months, he was in a new relationship. It was like the ground beneath me disappeared overnight.

What followed felt less like a breakup and more like a grief no one talks about. It was raw, painful, confusing. I had to navigate that alone, as a new chapter began — one I never asked for, but one that ultimately led me here.

One of the biggest turning points in my healing journey came when I started a simple morning practice. It didn’t involve big routines or fancy tools — it was just me, waking up early, and spending intentional time with myself before the world came in.

I followed a method called SAVERS:
Silence, Affirmations, Visualisation, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing (journaling).

Every morning, I’d get straight out the door with my dog, Bailey — she came back from Ibiza with me and was such a huge part of my healing. Our morning walks were everything. I made it a point to be out for at least an hour each day. Some mornings I’d have music in my ears, others I’d walk in silence, completely present, letting myself feel, reflect, or just be. That daily walk became my “Exercise” and my “Silence” all in one — grounding me, clearing my mind, and giving me space to process what I was going through.

Some mornings my whole SAVERS practice took just 10 minutes. Other times I gave myself longer. But no matter how much time I had, the shift in how I felt was undeniable. I started the day more centred, calm, and clear. It truly helped me rebuild my life, come to peace with the past, and begin to trust in where I was going again — without fear.
